Today is Day 24! Welcome back to our Get Hired job search blog series.
Question of the Day: Are job fairs a part of your job search strategy?
If you are easily overwhelmed by crowds, dont like to stand in long lines, and are nervous about on the spot interviews you may want to avoid job fairs. I employ you to think again. A job fair allows you to meet several employers at once and be evaluated by more than your resume. You may also learn about opportunities that have yet to be advertised in public or learn valuable information about a company you may not have considered working for.
Job search tip #23: Be open to new possibilities
- Arrive early – plan on extra time for checking in
- Treat this event just like you would any job interview.
- Dress professionally.
- Prepare a strong resume and bring several copies with you inside of your portfolio.
- Research the companies that interest you. Create a prioritized list of employers youd like to meet with at the job fair.
- Plan your strategy. Visit the booths that interest you most when your energy level is up and you are at your best.
- Make eye contact and introduce yourself. Greet each potential employer with a firm handshake and smile.
- Prepare a 20-30 second introduction.
- Prepare a list of questions to as potential employers.
- Dont ask for information that is available on the employer’s website.
