An intern is a person who works as an apprentice or trainee in an occupation or profession to gain practical experience, and sometimes also to satisfy legal or other requirements for being licensed or accepted professionally. An internship is a supervised training period. An educational agreement that you believe will serve both the intern and your organization.
You advertised in the best places, conducted a comprehensive selection process, and welcomed in the ideal candidate. You’ve conducted a thorough orientation and now expect your intern to make a valuable contribution while they learn. The problem is that your intern isn’t holding up their part of the partnership. Your optimism and excitement have diminished and now you’re frustrated. You may even be a little angry. How could this happen?
