Are all your intern’s college students? Would you hire an older intern?
Hollywood thinks it’s a great idea.
- In “The Intern” movie starring Robert DeNiro and Anne Hathaway, 70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker has discovered that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by a young Jules Ostin. Generational differences in the workplace and the value that Ben brings to the company make the movie well worth watching.
- The Hallmark Channel original movie “Summer Love” centers on a widowed suburban mom, who’s recently gone back to school, takes an internship and enters the fast-paced tech world of millionaire “app-trepreneurs”. Of course she falls in love but the awkwardness of her entry into a competitive corporate environment, the poor judgment in dating her CEO, and the interactions with the “regular” interns made the movie worth watching from a management perspective.
I would definitely hire an older intern! Experience and maturity bring huge value to any business.
