In my ideal world, Pack A Purse Drive begins the first of November, I host our Annual Purse Packing Party the first Saturday in December, I complete Uplevel Your Position Program cohort 4 in the first two weeks in December, I close out my academic semester with my students in the second week of December and deliver purse donations by Christmas. I have a holiday break with my private clients in the last two weeks of December. In my ideal world, this is how I choose to work during the month of December. My income does not suffer when I CHOOSE CAREER FULFILLMENT!
Career fulfillment to me means that I do impactful work that I love, I am adequately compensated for doing this amazing work, I feel valued for the value that I bring to my work, and I have time outside of work for the people, places, and things that bring me joy. What does career fulfillment mean to you?
In the real world, it’s December 2021…and if you’re anything like me, you’re struggling with whether to press the accelerator or hit the brakes. My brain (and society) is reminding me that it’s the 4th quarter and I have a few more weeks left to hit my year-end goals, end the year on a high note, and launch into the 2022 new year with a head start. My body is telling me that it has not fully healed from my injury a few weeks ago and I need to rest. I decided to end the ongoing conflict and listen to my body. My income does not suffer when I CHOOSE REST!
Rest for me includes physical healing, taking time off, self-reflection, and allowing my mind to wander and create. Rest for me includes sleep, time off, and watching holiday movies on Lifetime from my couch. Rest includes quality time with the people that I love. What does rest mean to you?
Are you experiencing a similar conflict? GUESS WHAT? I get to make my ideal world my reality and so do you! Here’s what we can both do:
- Make a decision
- Inventory our assets
- Evaluate perceived barriers
- Believe it’s possible
- Take strategic action
How will you end this year? What are you going to choose?
