October is Self-Promotion Month. Self-promotion is:

  1. Merriam Webster Dictionary online – the act of furthering one’s own growth, advancement, or prosperity: the promotion of oneself
  2. Iresearch.net Psychology – the practice of purposefully trying to present oneself as highly competent to other people
  3. Fiveable – the deliberate and strategic actions individuals take to enhance their visibility, image, and perceived value within a social or professional context

Strategic Career Management is the lifelong process of investing resources into your career to maintain or increase your value in the workplace, undertake work that is personally satisfying, strive for work/life balance, and achieve financial security. The three pillars in my Strategic Career Management framework are Clarity, Credibility, and Congruency. My Strategic Career Management process leads to career fulfillment.

Self-promotion is essential to achieve social work career fulfillment. Credibility, pillar 2, requires self-promotion.
