I love school. I met my best friends (whom I love) at school. I don’t love quizzes and tests and research papers and group projects and assignments that I don’t find useful in my real life
Maybe I love education. Education in its general sense is a form of learning in which the knowledge, skills, and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching, training, or research. I don’t love the formal structure and “one size fits all” instructional approach of our current education system. I don’t love separation and labeling.
Now that I think about it, what I really love is learning and teaching. I love to learn new things, learn about new people, challenge my critical thinking skills, and explore new behaviors. I love it when teachers meet students where they are and make facts and equations and processes fun and relevant. I love to share information and resources. I love connecting social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development. I love watching the spark as an idea is ignited or a concept connects.
School is a launching pad.
Education is life and life educates.
Learning is a lifelong endeavor.
Teaching unites humanity.
The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.” – Robert M. Hutchins
“I never teach my pupils, I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.” – Albert Einstein
