Politics can’t be separated from life…PERIOD.
EVERYTHING in your life in the USA is impacted by politics.
Politics impacts where you can live, acceptable living environments, how you protect yourself and your family, what is taught in your child’s school, the food available for sale, if you have safe drinking water, how fast you can drive your car, what age you’re allowed to have a drink, the safety of your work environment, how you can worship, how banks can use your money…EVERYTHING!
This post isn’t even about my political views – it’s about history, culture, equality, and opportunity.
It’s so interesting to see people denounce the separation of church and state when they want to outlaw abortion, bring prayer back into public schools, eliminate LGBTQ rights, and fundraise for their preferred candidates.
It’s also interesting for those same people to declare that politics shouldn’t be preached in the pulpit when it comes to Black pastors.
Christianity was used as a weapon against enslaved persons for centuries.
Y’all do know that churches were segregated and the only places Black people could gather was the Black church?
Who led the civil rights movement?
Were it not for Black pastors preaching politics – because equality and equity are as much about our political rights as they are about our human rights – where would we be?
If it were not for Black pastors, I would be unable to vote, sitting at the back of the bus, entering through the back door of movie theaters, unable to sit at lunch counters, and a myriad of other human rights Black people have had for less than 100 years.
If the plan to repeat the past is not evident to you then things are worse than I thought!!
