A leader is a person who rules, guides, or inspires others. It has been said that management is an occupation and leadership is a calling. There are several qualities that good leaders possess such as critical thinking and active listening and various ways to strengthen your leadership skills. Here are 5 ways you can be a leader:

1. Take Initiative
A good leader doesn’t not wait to be asked to take action nor do they sit idle while others work hard. Take charge. Lead the planning and organizing for professional and academic projects, social events, and enrichment activities.

2. Get Involved
Get involved in organizations both on and off campus. The more active you are the more you will learn, the more leadership opportunities will come your way and the stronger your leadership abilities will become.

3. Build Community
Team work makes the dream work. Help foster a team environment by encouraging listening, sharing, and cooperation. Remember to focus on the best interest of the group.

4. Share Your Voice
Express your thoughts and ideas without being overbearing. Praise and commend those who work with you when they do well.

5. Operate in Integrity
Use your power for good. Set an example by treating people with respect and fairness and being honest and fair. Teach and correct with compassion.
