A better question is what have you allowed to prevent you from upleveling your position?
I serve high-performing women of color in human services leadership because they are me. I’m a firstborn, a thinker, and a student who excelled academically with ease and a first-generation college graduate with an advanced degree. I am the go-to girl who is great at what I do but I also spent many years being overworked, underpaid, and feeling unappreciated. I have achieved success in many areas of my life – based on society’s standards. I built the career that I dreamed about in high school, and although I have always been a great employee. Despite being a high-achiever in other areas, I have always struggled with a fear of success in my entrepreneurial journey – but deep inside I have always known that I was made for more.
- My fear of success shows up in planning – Not executing or implementing the plans
- My fear of success shows up in procrastination – Not getting started at the ideal time or starting and stopping
- My fear of success shows up in perfectionism – Redoing, rewriting, researching
What have you allowed to prevent you from upleveling your position?
Our Deepest Fear by Marianne Williamson
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
