Conversation with Nicki Sanders: Give Yourself Permission

“There’s life back in your face.”

That’s what my friend and colleague said to me at our first lunch after leaving my job. I wish I could tell you that I didn’t hear the same version of that sentence with everyone I reconnected with.

  • “OMG you look so happy.”
  • “I can see you made the best decision.”
  • “You look like yourself again.”
  • “You’re smiling again.”

I had let my toxic workplace suck the life out of me! My smile was gone and my tank was empty. I experienced both compassion fatigue and professional burnout. I was a shell of myself…until I walked out the door and reclaimed my power and peace. Truth be told, I also had to rebuild some confidence.

And…walking away wasn’t easy. It felt like a divorce, not a job separation. Very few coaches talk about how we can become emotionally attached to our jobs and how that impacts our self-image, performance, and ability to prioritize our needs. This toxic loyalty is something I will cover in the August 2021 Conversation with Nicki Sanders and is a key topic in the Uplevel Your Position Program.

If you are barely surviving in a toxic workplace, give yourself permission to leave. If you could use support from someone who has been there and other awesome women cheerleaders, then I invite you to register for the Uplevel Your Position Program. We launch on September 13th.
