Last week fast-food workers in 60 nationwide cities launched a strike as a way to bring attention to their demand for a living wage. The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Fast food salaries don’t often pay much more. Workers in McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and other chains want an increase to $15.00.
There were heated arguments for and against the increase. I was shocked by the number of people who devalued these positions and criticized adults who work in fast food chains as unmotivated and uneducated. There were also those who didn’t agree with the increase because doubling salaries would mean an enormous (maybe even unsustainable) increase to business owners and customers.
