Do We Value All Employees?

Last week fast-food workers in 60 nationwide cities launched a strike as a way to bring attention to their demand for a living wage. The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Fast food salaries don’t often pay much more. Workers in McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and other chains want an increase to $15.00.

There were heated arguments for and against the increase. I was shocked by the number of people who devalued these positions and criticized adults who work in fast food chains as unmotivated and uneducated. There were also those who didn’t agree with the increase because doubling salaries would mean an enormous (maybe even unsustainable) increase to business owners and customers.

A professional portfolio is a visual tool that gives employers, recruiters, scouts, and mentors a complete picture of who you are – your abilities, experiences, education, achievements, and potential. My contribution to this living wage debate is to offer Packaged For Success™ Portfolio Development Program for Grown Ups. The Packaged For Success™ Portfolio Development Program will help you uncover new strengths, record your achievements, and create a long-term success strategy. The end result is a professional portfolio suitable complete with your employment tools, academic records, and civic engagement activities (and more) that is suitable for a variety of professional environments.
