Don’t Let the Office Holiday Party Ruin Your Job

Office holiday parties can be fun.  The thing you want to remember most about office holiday parties is that they are primarily professional events. Do not treat the office holiday as a typical social event. This is not the time to let loose. Maintain your professional standards and boundaries while having fun.

Five tips to keep your office holiday party from ruining your job (or career).
1. Wear classy, appropriate attire. Don’t wear clothing that is too casual, tight, revealing, or has offensive language.
2. Socialize with everyone. Be friendly and cordial. Do not monopolize your supervisor’s time and don’t converse only with people you already know. A holiday party is a great way to get to know other staff.
3. Limit your alcohol intake. Of course you don’t want to get drunk but you also don’t want to get “a little tipsy”. Never drink so much that you lose control and hook up with a coworker, spread rumors, get into an argument, or resign at the party.
4. Have fun and enjoy the music but remember you are not in a club or at a friend’s birthday party – don’t dance e entire night away and please don’t dance seductively.
5. Avoid posting about the party on social media.
