2021: New Edition announces The Culture Tour kicking off in 2022

2022: New Edition announces The Legacy Tour kicking off in 2023 (Yes, I have tickets for DC and ATL)

If you know me, then you know that I super LOVE New Edition. My heart was bursting with joy when I heard the concert announcements. THAT joy is the feeling I want to always feel about my work and it’s not a foreign feeling for me. I’ve said to myself and aloud to others “my heart is full”, “OMG, I love them”, or “I love it here” more times than I can recall. Because I know that feeling so well, nothing less will do. It’s true that passion won’t pay the bills, but I don’t want to earn an income doing work that I hate. Money is not enough – my mental health is a priority.

Creativity and autonomy have been consistent components of the roles I have held for over 20 years. I am an entrepreneurial employee – a big-picture thinker and a problem-solver. Performing a job with monotony and mundane tasks would bore me out of my mind. I would feel like I was losing brain cells. I’m also uninterested in managing crises and putting out fires all day long. I need to know that I am making a valuable impact while also learning and developing personally and professionally. Progress is important.

I have a master’s degree and over 20 years of diverse work experience, so a salary under six figures is out of the question. Yes, I will consider the entire benefits package, but $100,000 for a full-time job is literally the floor. Contrary to what you were told in social work school, I do expect to be paid well. I don’t love money, but I do love what money provides – appreciation, opportunity, and ease. I like paying my mortgage and utility bills on time! I love a good vacation.  Those New Edition concert tickets aren’t cheap. Peace of mind is crucial.

Just like me, you also deserve a job that feeds your heart, mind, and wallet. You deserve it and it is possible for you and available to you! Do you believe that?

If you’re having a hard time shifting your beliefs about what is possible for your career in social work or feel guilty for wanting to be paid well or are on the verge of complete burnout, this is your sign to take action.
