I Don’t Like Cover Letter and Resume Writing

I know that many career coaches enjoy it, but I’ve never actually liked cover letter and resume writing.  Lucky for you and me that what I do in terms of career coaching is so much more than wordsmithing.

I wrote this cover letter below for myself in about 10 minutes. Is it bad? Not necessarily? Is it good? Not necessarily? Will it suffice? Yep, because it is just a foundation. I can revise and update it as needed.

As an undergraduate professor of nontraditional college students and an internship supervisor with extensive experience in high-level operational and management of youth development and public health programs, as well as my expertise in supervising budgets and overseeing top-performing teams, I feel confident that my skills will significantly benefit the agency and clients. Additionally, I am committed to social justice, equity, and organizational wellness.

From directing program implementation and forging solid relationships to prioritizing employee engagement and staff development, to ensuring timely task execution, my background has consistently been characterized by my steadfast dedication to managing fiscal responsibility and achieving program objectives. My proven ability to strategically define and meet program goals, along with my strong communication and time management capabilities, position me to excel in this role.

I have spent the last 25 years of my career working on behalf of the protection, opportunity, and liberation of teen girls and women. I am experienced in offering trauma-informed services and which will allow me to provide leadership and training for staff working with high-trauma populations. I am an experienced researcher and trainer and have extensive experience providing information and resources to multiple stakeholders including government officials, board members, program staff, and clients.

  • Successfully analyzing and managing budgets, schedules, grants, staffing requirements, and general program tasks to comprehensively orchestrate all facets of ongoing program operations and success as the Program Director for various organizations.
  • Leading program evaluation and measurement and implementing data for program management and development.
  • Directing staff hiring, training, and mentoring functions while ensuring adherence to program’s quality standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Developing solid, trusting relationships with community agencies, academic institutions, internal/external stakeholders, and boards of directors.
  • Utilizing superior organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and time management skills to drive program efficiency and effectiveness.
