It Doesn’t Have to be Lonely at the Top

According to Pew Research Center, “The share of female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies reached an all-time high of 7.4% in 2020, with 37 women heading major firms. No Black or Hispanic women head Fortune 500 companies, while three Asian American women serve as CEOs.”

Shout out to Nicole Lynn who has just become the first Black woman agent to represent an NFL quarterback (Jalen Hurst) in the Super Bowl. Hard pill to swallow that in 2023 we are still experiencing high numbers of women “firsts”. I want to celebrate their achievements and denounce the lack of opportunity at the same time.

  • Queen Bee Syndrome
  • Sucky Stereotypes
  • Imposter Syndrome
  • Patriarchy
  • Glass Ceiling
  • Poverty

According to research published online by Zippia, “Women represent 58.4% of the US workforce as of September 2022 but only held 35% of senior leadership positions.”

As a Black woman, single mother, first-generation college student (undergraduate and graduate), and first-generation manager and entrepreneur, I have figured lots of things out by trial and error. I have often felt isolated, misunderstood, and apprehensive. What has always worked for me and brought me back to my center is sisterhood. I was never truly alone.

The Golden Gap Gender Report of 2020 states that “In 2020, women who earned a master’s degree had an average salary of $72,568 in the United States, while men who achieved the same level of education earned an average of $117,617.”

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “It’s lonely at the top”. Many of us have encountered experiences – our own or someone else’s – that confirm that stance. I am here today to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way.

It doesn’t have to be lonely at the top. You don’t have to be the only one at the table.

Together we can elevate your career to new heights, squash imposter syndrome, and package your experience and skills to command the money that you deserve. Sisterhood is self-care. We Can Do This!
