As a first-generation leader, I have dedicated myself to creating more women leaders. I’ve spent 2 decades pouring into Women and Girls of Color in multiple capacities and I’m not done yet. I recognize that Women of Color in leadership struggle with doubt and visibility in the workplace.
Currently, I am utilizing my education, expertise, and experience to help new Women of Color leaders – in their first leadership role or in leadership for less than 5 years – honor their gifts, elevate their confidence, show up for themselves, and avoid the toxic loyalty, compassion fatigue and burnout I experienced in my career. The transformation results in leading authentically with both softness and strength.
Many times, we limit our abilities and our opportunities. I am no longer subscribing to either or. I realize both/and is available to me – to us.
Because I practice what I preach, I am still helping high-performing Women Of Color in social work leadership achieve sustainable success by clarifying their goals and desires, increasing their confidence, centering their accomplishments, and prioritizing their wellness. As a Black woman in social work leadership who previously dimmed her light, I am passionate about helping high-performing women social workers in leadership show up, stand up, and speak up to build a strong support network, level up in their careers, and ease into their soft girl era.
I lead based on my personal leadership philosophy which I share on my More than Social Work with Nicki Sanders YouTube channel in the following leadership philosophy playlist.
