The last few years have been extremely divisive, volative and stressful in the United States. The 2016 Presidential campaign was one of the most contentious and down right mean campaigns most of us have ever seen. Instead of the President brining the country coming together, it seems he has caused us to become more polarized and less empathetic. School shootings, videos of police shootings, media attacks, Presidential Cabinet scandals, firings, and criminal charges and Supreme Court confirmations have not given us the chance to connect or exhale.
I encouraged everyone I know to vote and of course I performed my civic duty but I am not watching the election results tonight. I will find out in the morning who won these very important midterm elections. It is a form of self-care. I want to encourage you to practice self-care after the election. No matter which candidate wins the election, you lose if you neglect your health and wellness.
10 Ways to Practice Self-Care After The Election:
- Start your day by listening to music that inspires and motivates you.
- Create a gratitude list
- Call a loved one to chat
- Smile
- Take a break from social media and mass media
- Go for a walk
- Draw or do a craft activity
- Go to lunch with a friend
- Repeat a positive affirmation
- Watch a funny movie
