Self-Care Includes Taking Trips

September is Self-Care Awareness Month
If you don’t want to, you don’t have to! You don’t have to:

  1. Follow someone else’s career path
  2. Say yes to every request for your assistance
  3. Participate on every committee or board
  4. Commit to overworking
  5. Monetize every hobby or interest
  6. Post every achievement, celebration, or challenge in the name of transparency

It’s your life and career and the power to thrive is in your hands. Be authentic and define social work career success on your own terms.

Last week I checked another goal off of my career and business list which I’ll tell you all about very soon.

An authentically Nicki stretch is how I will describe it! And here is how I talked about it on social media:

“I recorded these clips on 2 different days because the question was genuinely on my mind and because I am focusing more intently on being present these days.

If you know me then you know I am an introvert and a private person who is trained in a profession that stresses boundaries and limited self-disclosure.

What the marketing mavens, branding bosses, and social media super stars say is the opposite of my nature and comfort zone, but the ‘struggle’ isn’t about comfort, it’s about who deserves access to certain parts of my life.

I’m building my business and career around my life and not the other way around!!”

Transformation Tip: Take A Trip

Self-care is taking trips.

A day trip. an overnight trip, a weekend trip, a week-long trip, a longer trip.

Explore your world, expand your horizons.

Of course I practice what I preach. Last month I took a day trip to Pennsylvania, traveled to my 25th (New Hampshire) and 26th (Missouri) states, and took a night tour of my hometown of Washington, DC. This month, I’m using my passport.

Are You Ready?

I am committed to sharing my social work career journey and offering insight and information to help other social workers at every stage of their career build a long-term, successful career that they love and on their own terms.
