Happy New Year,
I had a very lowkey New Year Eve. Spent time outside in nature, had multiple chats with family, had lengthy new year goals and intensions talks with 2 of my best friends, and switched through a watch night service and television channels as the east coast ushered in the new year. I haven’t decided how I will spend the first day of 2025.
What about you?
As I lean more into authenticity, self-care, and career fulfillment this year, changes are coming in my personal and professional life…and you’re invited LOL!!
I intend to spend more time on LinkedIn this year, so let’s take a look back at my 2024.
“Here’s my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor.studio:
2024 proved what I’ve always known: Social workers aren’t just helpers – we’re highly skilled professionals who deserve six-figure salaries and fulfilling careers.
This was the year we stopped apologizing for wanting more. Through my Strategic Career Management framework, we’ve shown that social work skills are highly transferable, high-income skills that deserve recognition and compensation.
Key transformations this year:
• Launched “More Than Social Work with Nicki Sanders” YouTube channel
• Delivered international keynote in Turks and Caicos Islands
• Expanded teaching impact at Howard Community College and Trinity Washington University
• Created ‘Empowering Social Workers: A Collective’ project
• Lived my “Regeneration” word of the year through continuous growth
Three posts that challenged the status quo:
“Corporate social work, environmental social work, financial social work, and sports social work are proof that your social work skills are highly transferable, high-income skills.”
https://lnkd.in/e2epdWgF
“Social workers do not take a vow of poverty. Your social work skills are highly transferable, high-income skills.”
https://lnkd.in/e3duMw4F
“We really do have to eliminate this outdated, narrow view of social work that is keeping us overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated”
https://lnkd.in/eZJG9rbN
Remember:
• Social workers do not take a vow of poverty
• Professional burnout is not a social work rite of passage
• You are a brand, and your career is your business
• If it costs you your peace, it’s too expensive
• Social work skills are highly transferable, high-income skills
2025 is about amplifying our collective voice and expanding what’s possible in social work – from corporate boardrooms to entrepreneurship to tech leadership. The outdated narrative ends with us.
To every social worker feeling stuck or undervalued: Your skills are worth six figures. Your wellbeing matters. And you don’t need permission to build a career that serves you while you serve others.”

I haven’t selected my new word of the year yet. Have you?
Have you set new year intentions, developed new goals, or created a 2025 vision or prayer board?
In the new year I will engage in more ‘thought leadership’ and less ‘career coaching’ …stay connected to learn more about what that looks like in real life.
I’m looking forward to expanding and growing with you this year!
