Social work is political!

Here is a bit of wisdom for those struggling with the reality of the dominant power in each of our 3 branches of government:

  • Reconnect with your people. Community is essential – we will need each other mentally, physically, emotionally, and maybe even financially.
  • Honor and engross yourself in the strength, courage, tenacity, and resilience of your ancestors.
  • Prepare don’t panic. I’m not a fan of hoarding and panic buying but prepare like you would prepare for a hurricane or a snowstorm. The inauguration is in January.
  • Utilize survival/traditional life skills your parents, grandparents, or even great grandparents used – sewing, gardening, cooking from scratch, building, bartering.
  • Create and stick to a budget.
  • Be aware, stay curious and learn continuously.
  • Print the photos from your phones that narrate the story of your life.
  • Pay special attention to your personal and home vigilance by implementing new safety precautions.
  • Buy the books – the banned books they don’t want you to read and the unbanned books that tell the truth about history, culture, and politics. Buy the books you can hold in your hands instead of ‘borrowing’ the digital versions.
  • Invest your time and attention in things that bring you joy and give you hope.

INHALE, EXHALE, KEEP BREATHING, KEEP SMILING, KEEP GOING!!!
