5 Lessons You Can Learn From Reality TV Failures

Hollywood loves reality TV because they can produce shows for a lot less money. Celebrities and celebrity wannabes love the reality TV and the internet because they can market themselves inexpensively by producing more content and immediately sharing it with thousands of people.

I have a love/hate relationship with reality TV. I love Shark Tank, Swamp People, It’s A Mann’s World, and Buying Alaska. I hate all the Housewives, Love and Hip Hops and the marriage and youth competition shows. I love that we get to learn about different cultures and careers and have the opportunity to support different businesses. I hate that former A-List celebrities are so starved for attention that they expose intimate encounters of themselves and their families in an effort to rekindle their relevance. The violence, profanity, and manipulation of reality TV trash only brings fame to a lucky few.

Many reality TV actors are unable to translate their exposure into new arenas and are only popular until their television ratings tank. They never become rich or famous. Most are unable to build a strong brand or launch a successful career. Tamar Braxton, Kim Kardashian and Bethenny Frankel are exceptions to the rule. Celebrities like Rev Run, Kim Whitley, Bret Michaels, Ryan Seacrest, and Tia Mowry- Hardrict & Tamera Mowry-Housley are another group who have strategically succeeded in reviving their careers and personal brands through reality television.  Consider for a moment what success means to you and what you are willing to do to achieve it.
