There is no doubt that the end of the semester is stressful. Final exams can make even the most confident student doubt their knowledge and abilities. There are things you can do to increase your final exam scores and other actions that sabotage your success.

5 Ways Students Decrease Final Exam Scores
1. Cramming for the exam instead of planning ahead and studying and reviewing the material over time.
2. Not getting enough sleep the night before. A tired break doesn’t function at peak potential.
3. Arriving to the test site late and/or disorganized. It is best to pace yourself and use all the time allotted for the exam.
4. Not eating a nutritious meal before the exam. Hunger is a huge distraction and can also cause a headache. Certain foods like oatmeal, berries, and eggs can even boost brain function.
5. Stating negative words to yourself like “I’m not good at taking tests” or “I’m going to fail” or “This is too hard” is detrimental to your performance. Encourage yourself.

DON’T DO THIS!
