Are You Willing To Give Them A Chance?

I would be rich if I had a quarter for every time I heard someone describe Generation Y in a negative manner.  Young people have been tainted as selfish, entitled, lazy, and show offs.  It’s been said that the millennial generation is unable to spell and write well, concentrate for an extended period of time, or dress for success.

To combat these negative trends, affluent families employ life coaches, tutors, and college prep counselors for their youth.  Youth with wealth are enrolled in fee-based summer internship programs or obtain jobs and internships with relatives and friends.  What about low-income and foster youth?

We need solutions not more excuses. If parents aren’t preparing their teens at home for the real world, under-performing schools aren’t properly educating teens, effective community organizations are a best kept secret and the media is poisoning the minds of young people will you step in and give them a chance?

  • Will you give them a chance by teaching them how to dress and speak on an interview?
  • Will you give them a chance by hiring them in your company even if they don’t have prior work experience?
  • Will you give them a chance by training them in careers that are in demand?
  • Will you give them a chance by becoming a tutor or mentor or driver’s education coach?
  • Will you give them a chance by becoming a foster parent or community resource parent?
