Last week one of my mentees sent me her unicorn.
Do you believe in unicorns? Not the legendary fictional creature that resembles a horse with a horn growing from the middle of its forehead, but the perfect job in the perfect company with the perfect salary.
She found a job in a great company doing exactly what she wanted to do, and she was surprised because she didn’t know it existed. She was unaware that there was an entire industry dedicated to her passion and she has the perfect skills to excel in that arena. Until that moment I had always spoken of “dream” jobs, but after doing some ‘research’, I now like unicorn better.
Research on symbolism uncovered that the unicorn gives the “eyes to see” possibilities, and “the wisdom” to take advantage of them. I read that mythically/spiritually unicorns symbolize success and that if one summons the power of the unicorn, it will give the blessings to be a success in whatever one chooses to pursue. (Disclaimer: I believe in Jesus Christ. This research is all fictional for me.) I believe in unicorn jobs! My truth is that I created my unicorn job once hired. I had to make it my own and you may have to create yours too.
Today my unicorn job is comprised of different projects and opportunities. The idea that unicorns are permanently connected to magical rainbows and beautiful butterflies is also an illusion. This has been a “social work week” which means I had to tap back into that deep internal well to manage a few professional issues this week.
I asked myself a couple of times this week “what am I doing with my life”, not because I’m confused but because these issues made me realize that I had shifted back into my comfort zone. Whenever I start to play small, I ALWAYS get an intense wake up call. I am AMAZING at what I do and sometimes I take that for granted. I’m also multi-passionate and every time I try to put myself in a neat little box I’m forced to expand. The expansion isn’t always comfortable but it’s always essential.
This shift is necessary to show up in a more powerful way when I launch my Uplevel Your Position Program on September 13th.
