I’m sure it’s no surprise to you that this quote speaks to me deeply as an entrepreneur. I really love creativity and autonomy and won’t hesitate to make executive decisions when needed. I have always had the entrepreneurial bug filled with dreams of doing my own thing in my own way. What I have not always had is a willingness to take a risk and let go of a “secure” paycheck. In this instance my job funded my business dreams.
Entrepreneurship definitely allows you to control your own destiny but can be lonely and unpredictable. Not everyone has the fortitude to be an entrepreneur and not everyone has the desire to become an entrepreneur. I believe Mr. Gaskin’s quote also applies to employees. I believe that you can land the job of your dreams and be hired to help someone build their dreams while you build yours at the same time. Win-win situation.
Here is my idea of what a dream job provides.

- Open Communication – clear mission, clear expectations, passionate team, approachable leadership and recognition for good work
- Benefits – fairly compensated for your education, skills, and experience
