My 2022 Career Elevation Continues

Welcome to August 2022! Happy New Month!

Yesterday (7/31/22), I delivered the final episode of my Cupcakes and Conversations with Nicki Sanders monthly feature. The date and time had not worked for me for months and I knew that part of the reason was that I was being prodded to make changed but I was ignoring the signs. I feel a sense of relief and excitement.

Last June (6/30/21), I published the final episode of Conversations with Nicki Sanders’s monthly interview with an awesome woman leader. I absolutely loved doing those interviews. I went from writing only to recording and posting audio interviews, but even that had begun to feel restrictive.  I was being nudged to elevate the interviews in a way I hadn’t yet decided upon – or wasn’t ready for.

As I live and love the last months of my forties, I am embracing clarity, credibility, and congruency. Remember, I said I would not lead you where I have not gone!

As I consider my word for the year – elevation – there will likely be additional changes to my business and services to reflect my unique experiences and authenticity.

Where Is Nicki Sanders Leadership Consulting headed?

Clarity:

I am a Social Work Career Coach for high-performing Women of Color who have been in social work leadership for at least 2 years. I recognize that brilliant Women of Color in social work leadership struggle with doubt and visibility in the workplace. As a Black woman in social work leadership who previously dimmed her light and became emotionally attached to her job, I am passionate about helping high-performing women social work leaders of color increase their confidence, honor their achievements, and level up in their careers.

I utilize my social work skills and education as a leadership consultant supporting organizations in transforming toxic workplaces by developing skilled, empathetic, and goal-oriented leaders who have the vision, support, and resources to create a culture where business prospers, and employees thrive individually and collectively.

Credibility:

Entrepreneurship is a career. I’m committed to transformation – going deeper with my clients instead of wider and creating safe spaces that encourage self-discovery, collaboration, professional development, and career fulfillment.

  • I am a Black woman with a master’s degree in social work who has experienced professional burnout and compassion fatigue as a high-performing leader.
  • I’ve been in leadership since 2007
  • I’ve worked in toxic environments and amazing workplaces
  • I’ve navigated microaggressions and rejected harmful stereotypes
  • I’ve accepted first salary offers and also negotiated salaries
  • I’ve had great leaders and not-so-great leaders
  • I’ve taught, mentored, and supervised women in leadership
  • I’ve personally committed to leaving workplaces better than when I entered them by increasing employee engagement, retention, and morale
  • I am proud of the amazing connections I have built with my teams
  • I’ve worked with clients who are college students, entry-level employees, new leaders, nonprofit executives, government employees, and entrepreneurs

Congruency:

For years I have been stating that macro social work is social work and encouraging social workers to define success on their own terms. I have boasted about the diversity and possibility of the social work profession. I have encouraged us to eliminate the old, narrow views of social work and embrace the many ways we can impact the world. Because I will never point you down a path that I am unwilling to travel, I am connecting my interest, goals, and passion for community, farm life, sustainability, food security, wellness, travel, education, and business into my unique combination of macro social work and eco-social work.

If you are ready to elevate in your leadership career but you are still contemplating your next move, let’s chat. I would love to support you as you uplevel your career.
