Welcome to March and National Social Work Month.
My purpose as a Social Work Career Empowerment Coach is to dismantle the outdated, narrow view of social work so that social workers are empowered to believe they can do anything they want to do professionally with their degrees. We are transforming the social work profession by elevating our expectations, building our brands, and positioning our power.
Social Work Month 2024 Theme: Empowering Social Workers!
During Social Work Month, let’s join NASW to raise awareness of the social work profession and highlight the need for the government, regulators and employers to work to improve pay for social workers as a way of investing in addressing challenging social issues. Because social workers deserve better compensation for the important work we do!
Every day during Social Work Month 2024, I will share one career empowerment tip. Follow me on social media for the daily tips and SUBSCRIBE to my ‘More Than Social Work’ YouTube channel to discuss each tip.

March is also Women’s History Month and National Reading Month.
On Saturday I commemorated Women’s History Month with a tour of the Harriet Tubman Cultural Center which was the only school for Black students in 7th-12th grades in Howard County, MD during segregation. Let me point out that Brown vs. Board of Education was 1954. That was only 70 years ago. Alumni from the school hosted a community event and shared their stories of triumph and pride. Let me remind take this time to remind you that there is currently a strategic, concerted attack on Black History, affirmative action, Diversity Equity and Inclusion programs (no matter how symbolic), voting rights, and Black intelligence that cannot be ignored. Our ancestors endured unprecedented horror and death so we could win the right to vote. Research all the candidates and their policies then vote like your life and your grandchildren’s lives depend on it…because it does. We can’t afford to sit this one out.
Remember my goal to read 2 books per month in 2024? Well, I’ve completed none. Not a one. I got through 1/3 of the book I was reading at the start of the year before putting it aside. In all transparency, I don’t even feel a way about it right now. Stay tuned…
Schedule a 20-minute consultation to discuss how we can work together.
