The Winter Solstice on Sunday, 12/21/25, marked the shortest day and the longest night of the year.
It was a quiet threshold moment when darkness peaks and light began its slow return.
You already know how much I love summer, but the Winter Solstice offered a leadership lesson I’ve learned to respect.
Because winter doesn’t push us to expand. It invites us to listen.
For high-performing Women of Color in leadership – many of whom were conditioned to equate worth with output – winter season can feel deeply uncomfortable. Stillness can feel unproductive. Rest can feel risky. Pausing can feel like falling behind.
But S.O.F.T. Leadership™ teaches something radically different.
Winter Is Strategic
Strategy isn’t always about movement.
Sometimes it’s about restraint.
Winter offers the clarity that comes from slowing down long enough to notice what no longer fits, what drains us, and what deserves to be released. This is the season for discerning – not deciding.
Winter Reveals Opportunity
Opportunity doesn’t disappear in quiet seasons—it becomes more subtle.
When external noise fades, internal wisdom rises. Winter creates space to recognize misalignment, name unspoken desires, and acknowledge truths we’ve been too busy to face.
Winter Protects Fulfillment
Fulfillment in this season isn’t found in achievement.
It’s found in honoring limits.
Winter reminds us that depletion isn’t noble—and that wholeness requires conservation. Rest is not a detour from purpose; it is what sustains it.
Winter Initiates Transformation
Transformation rarely begins in brightness.
It begins underground.
Like seeds beneath frozen soil, winter prepares us for growth we cannot yet see. The leadership you’ll embody in the coming year is being shaped now—through reflection, honesty, and rest.
If you’re feeling less visible, less energized, or less certain right now, this isn’t a leadership failure.
It’s a season of becoming.
Winter isn’t calling you to perform.
It’s encouraging you to trust the process of returning to yourself.
Winter is a powerful time for recalibration. The S.O.F.T. Leadership™ Power Hour Session creates space for strategy, rest, and intentional next steps.
