Conversation with Shauntia White, MSW, Adjunct Professor, Nonprofit Start-Up Executive, Nationally Recognized Advocate and Organizer

Shauntia White, MSW, MA, studied Japanese and classical music throughout middle and high school. Shauntia has a passion for politics, social justice, advocacy, and leadership. She is the Founder and Managing Director of YSocialWork, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to create social, economic, and environmental change in human services through advocacy, organizing, and philanthropy among adolescents and young adults globally who have experienced trauma or are interested in social work application in entrepreneurship.

Inspired by creativity and innovation, Shauntia lives and works with a passion for entrepreneurship. Shauntia fostered a passion for using innovative ideas to solve the nation’s most pressing issues in social work, women’s rights, and healthcare policy through her experiences as a board member for the Greater Washington Society for Clinical Social Work (GWSCSW) and the Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy (CRISP).

Shauntia is an adjunct professor who has conducted research investigating women, families, and children in Ethiopia, China, and Kenya. Throughout her career, Shauntia has been named Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund 2015 “Forty UNDER 40 Prince George’s County” and Distinguished Alumna for Prince George’s Community College 2015 Convocation. In 2016, she was awarded “Organizer of the Year” by the Congressional Research Institution for Social Work and Policy and “Advocate of the Year” by the National Association of Social Workers-DC Metro Chapter.

Shauntia is a committed advocate who has been on the protest front lines for equity and justice for Black lives both locally and nationally. She holds a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, a master’s degree in Human Development and Family Science from Oklahoma State University, and a bachelor’s degree in Family Science from the University of Maryland, College Park. Shauntia is certified in Human Service Leadership and Management and has a certificate from the School of Public Policy’s Nonprofit Management and Leadership Program at the University of Maryland, College Park.
