Don’t Hire An Intern When You’re Desperate

Hiring is the most important component of your internship program.  Please don’t rush the hiring process.  Finding the right intern can help you increase your productivity and profits while training the next generation of super employees.

I understand that you are busy and need additional support. I understand that you may be so swamped with day to day tasks that your feel like your creativity and passion are disappearing. Despite overwhelm or fear, never hire an intern when you’re desperate.  It’s important to plan ahead and be proactive as you build your internship program.  An internship should be mutually beneficial for interns and employers. Taking time to consider your needs, preferences, and availability in the beginning can save quite a few headaches in the end.

It’s better to have an open position than to fill a vacancy with the wrong intern.

  1. Some mistakes can be costly to repair
  2. The wrong intern can negatively impact morale
  3. The wrong intern can negatively impact productivity and profits
  4. The wrong intern can negatively impact customer relations
  5. The wrong intern can test your confidence as a manager
