National Adoption Month and SPOTLIGHT Teen of the Month

Our SPOTLIGHT Teen of the Month feature recognizes a teen in foster care that is making a positive impact in their community.  This feature allows us to highlight the best in our young people and show that when given support and opportunity, youth can change the world. I created SPOTLIGHT Teen of the Month to eliminate negative stereotypes of youth in foster care and also to offer positive role models to youth in foster care. As I thinking about how to commemorate National Adoption Month I realized that SPOTLIGHT Teen of the Month can serve another purpose – serving as an additional introduction of young people awaiting adoption.  I hope that SPOTLIGHT Teen of the Month can help a teen find a forever family.

Here are five other ways to get involved:

  1. Become a foster parent.
  2. Donate to a foster care agency (public or private).
  3. Hire a young person in foster care.
  4. Mentor a young person in foster care.
  5. Tutor a teen in foster care.
