Our “SPOTLIGHT Teen of the Month” feature recognizes a teen in foster care that is making a positive impact in their community. This feature allows us to highlight the best in our young people and show that when given support and opportunity, youth can change the world. I created SPOTLIGHT Teen of the Month to eliminate negative stereotypes of youth in foster care and also to offer positive role models to youth in foster care. As I thinking about how to commemorate National Adoption Month I realized that SPOTLIGHT Teen of the Month can serve another purpose – serving as an additional introduction of young people awaiting adoption. I hope that SPOTLIGHT Teen of the Month can help a teen find a forever family.
Here are five other ways to get involved:
- Become a foster parent.
- Donate to a foster care agency (public or private).
- Hire a young person in foster care.
- Mentor a young person in foster care.
- Tutor a teen in foster care.
