Welcome to February 2021!

Many will celebrate love on Valentine’s Day this month. I encourage you to practice more self-love this month. Self-love is an appreciation of one’s own worth. Self-love is accepting yourself, treating yourself with kindness and respect, cultivating your growth and nurturing your well-being. Self-love is prioritizing your health – physical, mental, and emotional. Self-love includes career development.

In February, we are going to take the time to get intentional about eliminating exhaustion, toxic relationships, extreme independence, procrastination, fear, confusion, and putting everyone else’s needs before your own.

Self-love includes setting healthy boundaries, challenging yourself, honoring your values, forgiving yourself, recognizing your strengths, asking for help, speaking positively to yourself and advancing your career. Self-love allows you to be assertive, celebrate your achievements, and indulge in hobbies and training.

We spend such a significant amount of time at work and because often parts of our identities are connected to our jobs that self-love must include work/life balance and career development. Shrinking and ignoring your needs keeps you stagnant. Toxic workplaces are hazardous to your health and career advancement. Healthy workplaces and work practices positively impact all areas of life. Let’s avoid professional burnout. Here are 5 ways to incorporate career development into your February self-love practice:

  1. Update your resume and cover letter
  2. Record your accomplishments
  3. Speak up in meetings
  4. Take your full lunch break and end the workday on time
  5. Hire a career coach
