Think About What You’re Thinking!

If you have a master’s degree, specialized credentials, years of work experience, and are great at what you do but you feel trapped in a dead-end job, the problem is usually deeper than what appears on the surface.

If you have the job search strategies and know what to do but are having a hard time doing it, the problem is usually deeper than what appears on the surface.

If you have no problems getting hired but you keep going from toxic workplace to toxic workplace, the problem is usually deeper than what appears on the surface.

If you can solve everyone’s job problems but you are in a toxic workplace entanglement, take a moment and ask yourself why.

What is really going on?

Remember when I said sometimes you need to work on your mindset more than your skillset? Yeah, I’m reiterating that today.

I acknowledge the uniqueness of my skills and career experience. I know where my strengths lie. I understand that one of my gifts is helping my clients recognize where they are stuck or experiencing resistance and providing strategies to help them move forward. My point is that I am great at what I do – not good, great – and what I do is more than cover letter and resume writing.

Reminder: When you’re in your own lane there is no competition

Actually, it’s deeper than that. I’m absolutely not in competition with anyone. I don’t want what anyone has, and no one can have what is meant for me. Thinking about who is watching me or what they think about me is an illogical distraction.

AND THE SAME THING GOES FOR YOU!

If you spend time thinking about what other people are doing or saying, you are shifting the focus away from your goals.

If you spend time thinking about how your social work career measures up to someone else’s, you are diminishing the beauty of your journey. (The only person you should be in competition with is yourself.)

If you spend time thinking about past mistakes you aren’t honoring on your current potential.

Thoughts create things.

What you think about you bring about.

Your dominant thoughts create your reality.

Change your thoughts and you change your life!

Now is the time to think about your needs.

Now is the time to think about your assets.

Now is the time to think about your success.

You don’t have to be overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated, but if you want a six-figure position in social work leadership you have to believe you are qualified for it and you can have it before you can obtain it. I’m not a therapist, but you have to move past whatever is keeping you stuck in your career.
