Why Is It Called S.O.F.T. Leadership™?

People ask me why I named my framework S.O.F.T. Leadership™.
Because “soft” isn’t what the world taught me to be.

As an eldest daughter…

The reliable one.

The dependable one.
As a social worker…

Who experienced compassion fatigue and burnout.

As a Black woman…
Who inherited unfair societal limitations and cultural conditioning

Softness didn’t feel like an option.

Strength meant carrying more.
Doing more.
Being everything for everyone.

And like many high-performing Women of Color leaders, I learned how to be “hard” to survive in workplaces that were never designed for us.

Navigating bias.

Navigating expectations.

Navigating all the “isms.”

Because the truth is—
softness can feel risky.

When you’ve been conditioned to believe that rest is earned…

That boundaries are resistance…

That vulnerability will be used against you…

Softness doesn’t feel safe.

But I reached a point where I didn’t want to carry it all anymore.

I wanted to put the weight down.

To accept support.

To lead without exhaustion.

And I had to redefine what “soft” actually meant.
Soft is not weak.
Soft is intentional.
Soft is powerful.

So, I created a framework that gave softness structure.

Language.

And depth.

S.O.F.T. Leadership™ isn’t about doing less.
It’s about leading differently.

  • Strategy → Replacing survival mode with intentional, aligned leadership
  • Opportunity → Rejecting exploitation and choosing spaces where you can grow
  • Fulfillment → Restoring yourself instead of abandoning yourself
  • Transformation → Reaching sustainable success without depletion

For me, “soft” means:
-Honoring to yours authenticity self instead of performing.
-Choosing restoration over burnout.
-Leading from liberation instead of limitation.
-And building success that doesn’t cost you your wholeness.

That’s why the acronym matters so much to me.

Because it turns a word we were taught to question…
into a framework that teaches us how to lead with sovereignty.
S.O.F.T. is strong!
